“We came to ensure that the people enjoy dividends of Democracy” – Hon. Olayiwola tells Council Chairmen

The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs Hon. Sobur Olawale Olayiwola has stated clearly that the reason for embarking on the tour of the Local Governments and Local Council Development is to carry out oversight functions on the projects and programmes so far embarked upon by the Councils for the benefits of the populace.

“We did not come to witch-hunt you but to ensure that the people enjoy dividends of democracy. It is apparent that the people at the grassroot are yearning for feeder roads or trunk “C”, which are the responsibilities of the Local Governments, primary drainages, culverts and others that can make life better for the people, these are the things we came to confirm if the Councils are actually performing their primary responsibilities.”

The Committee Chairman praised Yaba LCDA for its giant strides on education, road construction, primary healthcare centres and office accommodation.

The Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Kayode Adejare Omiyale welcomed the Committee Chairman and members of his committee. He commended the committee for the oversight function and enumerated the achievements so far recorded at the Council Chamber, which was equipped with modern gadgets, furniture, gallery, and other amenities. The Committee Chairman rated Yaba LCDA very high among all the Local Governments in Lagos State.

The Leader of the House, Hon. Solomon Gbinigie praised the Omiyale-led administration on the Councillor’s Furniture Allowance, severance package and other statutory benefits.

In the same vein, the leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), enumerated the welfare packages being enjoyed by the members of staff from time to time because of the cordial relationship that exists between the administration and the members of staff.

The Council Manager, Mr Olayiwola Giwa said the management team, the Executive Committee and the Legislative Committee are working harmoniously together towards achieving the cardinal campaign promises of the Chairman.

On the entourage of the committee members were Hon. Kehinde Joseph representing Alimosho constituency, Hon. Nureni Akinsanya representing Mushin Constituency I, Hon. Rauf Sulaimon representing Amuwo-Odofin constituency I, Hon. Makinde Rasheed representing Ifako Ijaiye Constituency II and other members of secretariat staff.
