Yaba Sights and Sounds: The Popular WAEC Bus Stop in Yaba, Lagos

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Bus Stop in Yaba on the mainland of Lagos is one of the most popular locations in Lagos state, because the headquarters of WAEC is located near the bus stop with one of the tallest buildings in the area. It is also the main bus stop of the famous Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), the first tertiary institution in Nigeria founded in 1947.

It is directly opposite the WAEC building and close to the nearby Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC). Therefore, thousands of students of the two academic institutions use the bus stop with hundreds of other commuters taking different public and private transport vehicles such as the popular “Danfo” buses, “Korope” minibuses, “Keke” tricycles, “Okada” motorcycles and cabs.

Believe it or not, a lot of people in Lagos still don’t know the location of WAEC, including millions of other Nigerians and even foreigners from other countries in the world, mingling among more than 20 million people living and working in the largest megacity in Africa of which only about 10% of them are indigenes of the densely populated commercial capital of the largest economy in the continent.
