Lagos Rains: Heavy downpour leaves commuters stranded on Yaba roads

Commuters were, in the early hours of Monday, September 12, 2022, left stranded along the Herbert Macaulay Way-Jibowu routes following heavy rainfall which started in the wee hours of the day.

Yabacity.com gathered that very few vehicles were on the ground to convey the commuters who defied the downpour to leave their homes for their various places of engagement for the day. Tradesmen and women and students alike were seen standing on the side of the road, waiting for buses that were already loaded at full capacity, though with an added charge.

Drivers, in a bid to escape the traffic on the major roads, had to take alternative routes in adjoining streets. Our correspondent gathered that the hike in transportation fares was not unconnected to the lack of road worthiness of some vehicles.

A respondent who did not give his name said, “It is not that the money is too much, we will still pay, but there are no buses. I think it is because a good number of vehicles cannot ply the road when it is raining, so those that can have to use this opportunity to make money for themselves too.”
