In line with keeping his promise, the chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, Hon. (Dr.) Kayode Adejare Omiyale, has disbursed N2.6 million Emergency Relief Fund for victims of Makoko inferno.

Omiyale adopted the report and recommendations of the 5-man committee chaired by the Councillor of the Ward, Hon. Kazeem Adebola, Mr Olanrewaju Ilori, to distribute money to all reported victims of the fire incident in Makoko.

Some of the beneficiaries included home and business owners in the community, whose houses, shops and stalls, were affected.

Addressing the victims, the chairman said for the people to, “be safety conscious and imbibe the habit of switching off of electrical appliances during power outage”, and to have lesser electrical appliances plugged in a power extension box that is not wired for much capacity.

He noted that after extensive scrutiny of claims of affected victims by the committee, they were collated into categories, with the lowest beneficiaries receiving N50,000.

Commending the chairman for the gesture, the CDA Chairman, Mr. Olanrewaju Ilori, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the relief to rebuild and restart their businesses and become employers of labour.
