Olonode Community Calls for Better Drainage System, Others

Residents of Olonode community, Alagomeji in Yaba LCDA of Lagos State have called on the local and state governments to save them from poor drainage system, epileptic power, and water supply.

Both vehicular and pedestrian movements have become difficult in the community, especially, when it rains, as residents have had to navigate through marshy portions of the road. The cause of this was traced to the bad drainage system in the community and lack of gutters, hindering the free flow of water.

Speaking for the residents, a source among the Community Development Association (CDA) said they need the help of the government to fix the gutters in the community.

She lamented: “Stagnant water has taken over our community even though we cleared the drainage last year. We need the intervention of the government to fix our drainages to save us from possible flood when the rains come.

“Moreover, the streetlights installed not too long ago have stopped working. Our community is perpetually thrown into darkness at night. Even electricity supply in the area is very poor. We also need a proper borehole system as a source of portable water in our community. These were some of the concerns that was raised at the last stakeholders’ meeting at the Council.

“We continue to urge the government to take up our plight and do the needful,” she concluded.
