Tax: Yaba Set to go Digital

In line with its SMART City agenda, the Yaba LCDA under the administration of Hon. Kayode Omiyale, recently launched an online platform – YabaRev- for convenient collection of taxes among residents in Yaba.

The project is in conjunction with Taxaide Technologies Limited (Taxtech), a foremost company that develops and deploys technologies for the efficient and effective management of taxes and related payments in Nigeria.

Aptly named ‘YabaRev,’ the administrative platform will facilitate easier and convenient tax collection and assessment of tax-payers in Yaba LCDA.

Speaking with yabacity.com, Hon. Omiyale stressed the importance of tailoring governance to technology in an ever-changing world. He said, “We have found ourselves in a dynamic world where technology has taken over previous analogue systems. Therefore, we must work to constantly keep up the pace with the rest of the world.

“YabaRev is the brainchild of Yaba LCDA. It is our proactive method of internally generating revenue among Yaba residents and traders. We are building and expanding our infrastructure here in Yaba for obvious reasons – Yaba Smart City and the Lagos Megacity projects.”

Furthermore, he said that his administration wants to bridge the gap between government and the people through technology. This, according to him, stems from the fact that Yaba city is known as the cradle of tech startups.

“With the internally generated revenue, we can build more health centres in addition to the ones we currently have. Of the 6 health centres we have, one of them has been converted to a COVID-19 contact tracing centre to better tackle the spread of the virus in Yaba.

“We have partnered with PSP for the management of solid waste and general environmental cleanliness in Yaba. There is more to be done in addition to all these and frankly, allowance from the state government is hardly enough.”

Omiyale assured that despite the fact that gross national income has reduced due to the falling price of petroleum in the international market, his administration will continually ensure the delivery of its promises.
