Omiyale Gives Insights on Budget as Yaba LCDA Hosts Town Hall Meeting

Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon. Kayode Omiyale on Thursday, January 7, 2021 gave some insight into his administration’s policies and programmes on education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment as Yaba LCDA hosted its first town hall meeting in 2021.

The event which held at the Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Yaba LCDA, had in attendance Vice Chairman Bolanle Aileru, MD/CEO Taxaide Technologies Limited (Taxtech), Bidemi Olumide, NUT Chairman, Lagos Mainland Branch, Olufemi Adedeji, CDC Chairman, Adeboye Odunsi, Iyaloja General, Owolabi Batola.

Others include council executives, traditional rulers, community leaders, political leaders, and representatives from all walks of life.

Omiyale in his opening remarks reiterated the importance of such meetings. “This is an important stakeholders’ meeting which should be of interest to all residents and organisations in Yaba LCDA especially as the past year had been very challenging for all of us. This is an avenue for this administration to seek opinions on strategies to move Yaba forward. Your participation and contributions are highly appreciated.”

He also gave updates on the efforts of his administration at delivering on its promises despite the COVID-19 challenges of year 2020, citing the completion of the construction of Senator Oluremi Tinubu Model Nursery and Primary School, renovation of Military Primary School, completion of Iwaya Road with interlocking, renovation of Alara and Dacosta streets in Ward ‘C’, Onike, fumigation of schools, markets, bus stops and offices, stimulus packages for widows and the aged.

At the meeting, representatives from communities were given an opportunity to express their needs with a promise by the Chairman to attend to them all. Petitions included repair of bad roads, reconstruction of poor drainage systems, installation of streetlights, reconstruction of market stalls and police posts, building of school libraries, vocation centres, health-centres, recruitment of security operatives within the communities, among others.

Speaking at the event, the MD of Taxaide Technologies Limited (Taxtech), Bidemi Olumide emphasised the importance of not only implementing taxation with a database, but also, of generating income within Yaba. He said that an internally generated revenue will be a ready source for Yaba to execute its projects speedily before interventions from the state and federal level comes.

He stated that the National Tax Policy began under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 and the idea of creating a tax collection database originated from Yaba. Hence, the partnership with Yaba LCDA to create an online platform – YabaRev – for easy and convenient collection of taxes among eligible taxpayers in Yaba.

Mr. Olumide also pledged to contribute books to the library project proposed by the NUT Chairman for the LCDA.

Proactively, Mr. Omiyale revealed that private National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) organisations will commence registration within the council premises by next week. He also said that two of such organisations are already existing in Makoko. This is done to further reduce large gatherings against the spread of the Corona Virus.

Stakeholders at the forum lauded the efficiency of the present administration and expressed the need for community requests to be granted promptly.
