10 die, seven injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

Ten persons have lost their lives while seven others were injured in an accident that occurred in the Kara axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday.

The accident which occurred around 5 am involved an ash-coloured Toyota Hiace bus with registration number FKY898YF and an orange colour truck.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Roads Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, in a statement, said the suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed.

The injured victims were said to have been taken to the hospital for medical attention while the dead bodies were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.

The statement partly reads “FRSC operatives Mowe unit Command carried out a rescue operation on Ibadan-Lagos road around Kara Turning (Towards Interchange).

“The crash which occurred  at about  0500hrs early hours of Tuesday morning involving two vehicles  with details as follows

“A total of 18 Male adults were involved. Seven male adults were injured while 10 male adults were recorded dead from the crash. The suspected cause of the fatal crash was excessive speed which led to loss of control as the bus rammed into the tipper that was about to negotiate the turning.

“The Sector Commander, CC Anthony Uga was pained over the fatal crash that could have been avoided if necessary caution had been put in place.

“He also emphasised that drivers should endeavour to take a 15-minute rest for every four 4 hours drive because fatigue has been a major cause of road traffic crashes.”
