Tinubu, new service chiefs will end Plateau killings – Lawmaker

The Senator representing Plateau Central in the National Assembly, Diket Plang, has said that President Bola Tinubu and the new service chiefs will find a solution to the series of attacks and killings in the state.

Senator Plang who arrived in Plateau state for the first time after the inauguration in Abuja gave the assurance on Thursday while  speaking with journalists in Jos regarding the ugly happenings in his constituency

The PUNCH reports that in the past three months, there had been persistent attacks by gunmen particularly within the Mangu LGA and other parts of the central zone of Plateau state.

No fewer than 250 persons had died as a result of the attacks with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

The Senator who condemned the killings and destruction of properties in his constituency noted that the crisis in the area was expanding and must not be allowed to continue.

He said: “The situation in Mangu which used to be the most peaceful LGA in Plateau state is unacceptable. Many people have been killed and their properties destroyed. The crisis in the Plateau Central unfortunately is expanding and has extended to Mangu. I’m very certain that the people of Plateau and indeed Nigerians are saddened by the event that has taken place in the affected LGAs. We must find a solution to the situation at hand.

“I’m very grateful because, during our inauguration, we had time with Mr. President (Bola Tinubu) and the president spoke about what is happening in Mangu and told us that the state Governor, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang met him over the issues and they discussed at length. I’m also happy because one of the concerns of Mr President is the issue of security because he believes that where there is no peace in our country, he will not be able to work. I believe that his restructuring of the security leadership in the country leading to the appointment of new service chiefs will find a solution to what is happening in my constituency.

The Senator urged the residents to give maximum support to the new administration led by President Bola Tinubu
saying “If the efforts of the previous administration have failed, there must be another way of handling the security issues in the state because it is long overdue.”

Senator Plang who also thanked the people for allowing him to represent them at the National Assembly promised not to disappoint the people
