Al-Hilal’s Ighalo Nominated For Best Player Award After March Goal-Scoring Spree

Al-Hilal striker, Odion Ighalo, has been nominated for the Best Player award in the West Asian region for his performances in March.

Ighalo is one of seven players shortlisted for the accolade, which is conferred by the Asian Football Confederation. The monthly award is based on a host of criteria including the player’s influence on their team’s results, goals and assists, and their role in international matches played by their country.

During March, Ighalo scored four goals in the Saudi Pro League, including a brace against Al-Taawoun FC. He is currently the leading scorer in the Saudi Arabian top-flight with 16 goals to his name. The 33-year-old has found the net in five consecutive matches in League and Cup for only the second time since joining Al-Hilal.

The announcement of Ighalo’s nomination for the award comes amid speculation about his future. The contract of the former Manchester United forward is up at the end of the season, and he is currently attracting interest for the frequency of his goal-scoring. He is expected to be one of the most sought-after free agents in the summer transfer window, with several rich clubs in the Gulf and a couple of European teams reportedly interested in his services.

Ighalo’s goalscoring form in March will only enhance his value and reputation, and the Best Player award nomination is a testament to his contributions to Al-Hilal’s push for the Saudi Pro League title.
