Lagos Mainland LG holds business support initiative and elderly citizens assistance scheme

Start-ups and micro-businesses drive innovation and provide employments, and that’s the reason the Lagos Mainland Local Government secretariat’s main hall was filled to the brim on Thursday 2nd of June 2022 as the council chairman, Hon. (Mrs.) Omolola Essien doled out cash gifts of #100, 000 and #50,000 to 100 artisans and young entrepreneurs in the Local Government Areas to stimulate the growth of their small and medium scale businesses.

In her opening remark, the council boss posited that her administration is poised to identifying with projects that will have direct impact on the people and the community at large in line with the dictates of the party, the All Progressives Congress, as well as the utmost belief in the ideology of dividends of democracy which must be enjoyed by all and sundry. It is on this premise that the administration since its inception has initiated different interventions traversing Education, Health, Wealth creation, Environment, Women Development, Staff welfare as well as infrastructural development to make life meaningful to the people in Lagos Mainland Local Government.

“Our vision is to build a virile, viable, model and mega Local Government committed to promoting developmental and people-oriented policies that supports productive activities. We are equally committed to human capital development, socio-economic and infrastructural growth in partnership with all key stakeholders,” she affirmed.

However, the beneficiaries of the Business Support Initiative were carefully selected from their places of business along the streets of the local government areas and were urged to make honest, judicious and efficient use of the funds given to them to achieve the ultimate goal for a better Lagos mainland.

Also, to cushion the effect of the current harsh economic reality, one hundred and twenty (120) elderly citizens across the 9 wards of the LGA whose ability to generate substantial income has reduced greatly were graciously given twenty thousand naira (#20,000) stipend each. The council chairman also disclosed that the elderly monthly stipend program will continue and the beneficaries will be randomly selected among the elderly citizens with the LGA.

Azeez Oloto and his colleagues, the supervisors, Council Manager -Mr. Olusegun Ajagunna, Council treasurer, Mr Rufai Mujitaba, LMLG Apex Leaders, Hon. Olawale Oshun, Hon. Prince Abiodun Fagba, Lagos central senatorial youth leader – Ismail Matti, CDC Chairman Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri, Chief Pedro (Eletu of Lagos Mainland), NIREC & CAN representatives, former Lagos central youth leader, Alh. H.O Mohammed, other APC chieftains and council officials.
