Council boss felicitates with women on International Women’s Day

Hon. Omolola Essien, Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, joined the world to celebrate the strong and fierce spirit of women, as the world celebrated International Women’s Day Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

In a felicitation post signed by the mayor, she called for a collective celebration of women regardless of cultural or ethnic divide and encouraged them to overcome all obstacles in all areas of life.

Hon. Essien, in her congratulatory message, said, “It’s Y2022 International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrate the global “social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women”. This year’s campaign theme: Gender Equality Today for Sustainable Tomorrow symbolizes the need to break the bias.

It’s important to spotlights the individual and collective biases against women that fuel gender inequality. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field. So, are you in? Will you actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time you see it? Let’s join hands together to celebrate our Women, whether professionally or personally, Women from all walks of life regardless of their cultural or ethnic divide, to commemorate their battle for peace, justice, equality, and progress. And encourage them to overcome all obstacles in all areas of life in order to achieve significant progress.”
