Free Your Mind of Grudges, Omiyale Urges Aged

The Executive Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Hon. Kayode Adejare Omiyale has appealed to the aged to always free their minds of grudges. He made this call during the Aged and Widows Empowerment Programme of his administration, Tuesday.

Speaking at Ward D, Abule Oja, being the 9th in the series since the birth of his administration in 2017, Omiyale said the beneficiaries of the aged and widows empowerment programme are mainly people above the age of 60 within that very community.

He said, “We streamline the programme in such a way that only residents that are above the age of 60 in a particular ward can benefit, we have never allowed non-residents of a particular ward to enjoy what belongs to another ward.

We therefore involve the leadership of the Community Development Associations of the benefitting ward, political leaders, landlords and youths. This has greatly reduced the incidence of cross benefitting because it is usually down within the benefitting community where each one knows everybody.”

He appealed to younger generation to look after the aged because they have toiled day and night to make the society what it is today.

“Many of them settled in this communities when there were no roads, drainages, transformers, schools and other basic amenities. They used their personal resources to build up our communities to what they are today.”

He further said, “Most of these beneficiaries were business tycoons, renowned scholars, teachers, unionists, civil servants and others, who used their youthful ages to serve humanity. The gathering is not all about giving out money, it is equally of social interaction between us and the aged.”

Omiyale used the opportunity of the programme to counsel families of the deceased to stop calling widows murderers saying, “No wife in her right senses will kill her husband.” He’s charged them to show sympathy to the widows and stop all forms of barbaric tradition.

He extolled the virtues of Alhaji Kola Osho whom Abule Oja Primary Health Centre (PHC) was named after.
