Boat Operators, Water Transporters, Congratulate Sanwo-Olu on Re-Election

The National Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON) and Waterfront Boat Operators and Water Transporters Association (WABOTAN) have congratulated Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State on his re-election.

A statement jointly signed by by Dr. Gani Tarzan Balogun and Mr. Tope Fajemirokun, Presidents, ATBOWATON and WABOTAN, respectively, said that Sanwo-Olu deserved a second term in office due to his exemplar performance in the state since 2019 when he came onboard.

The statement hinted that the operators mobilised a coalition of trade operators and ferry services entrepreneurs to campaign for the governor.

They said that Lagos waterways transportation ecosystem would benefit from his dedication and passion for the state.

The statement said: “Both ATBOWATON and WABOTAN, are well-pleased with governor Sanwo-Olu re-election. During the campaign, we took a position based on what he brought to the table, particularly in carrying us along in rebuilding and calibrating the entire ecosystem of the sector.”

The statement emphasised that the two bodies would be available as a bridge and plank to open more rural areas to boats and ferry services.

The duo prayed that the governor empowers Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA) to facilitate full realisation of making waterways transportation, a dream economy and expressed confidence in the leadership of the body.

According to them, LASWA delivered professionally on the governor’s road map on water transportation, adding that they would partner with the government in reaching out and finding solutions to challenges to full empowerment of operations, particularly as verifiable contributors to state financial purse and the provision of skills acquisition opportunities and jobs in boating business.

The statement explained that the governor’s return would aid water recreation, leisure and tourism in the state, while also helping to define the water tourism road map, articulate its immediate and future financial content.

“Our associations are ready, really ready to mobiliSe to activate both the socioeconomic and security opportunities in water tourism and logistics. It’s big business elsewhere and we shall work with the governor and LASWA leadership to open this frontier,” the statement added.
